Dermal fillers are substances that are injected into the skin to soften fine lines, folds and wrinkles.
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are an injectable, gel-like substance which can be injected underneath the skin to help plump thin lips, soften the appearance of wrinkles and recessed scars, as well as help to reconstruct some deformities on the face. Cosmetic dermal fillers are most often used to plump the lips and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Facial filler treatments are a great way to help decrease the signs of aging caused by age, sun exposure, and heredity.
What are fillers made of?
Dermal fillers are typically made up of one of the following: Hyaluronic Acid, Calcium Hydroxyapatite, Poly-L-lactic Acid, Polymethylmethacrylate, and Autologous fat injections. These different options provide different results for a different amount of time. They can also produce different side effects, so it is always best to speak with your provider first, before deciding which type of filler will best meet your needs.
Hyaluronic Acid typically lasts about six months to two years and absorbs back into the body making it one of the most natural options. Calcium Hydroxyapatite lasts about a year and is a little thicker than Hyaluronic acid, making it a better option for deeper wrinkles. Poly-L-lactic acid helps to stimulate your skin’s own collagen production, lasting up to two years with gradual results. Polymethylmethacrylate is made up of tiny balls injected into the skin to give it the same plumper look. It’s not the most popular choice due to its more frequent complications, but many choose it because of its long-lasting results. This type of filler can last up to five years. Lastly, autologous fat injections are made of fat taken from other parts of the body through liposuction. This fat is then deposited into the face to plump the skin. While this option has long lasting results, this procedure requires sedation and about a week or two of recovery time.
What types of dermal fillers do you use at Ageless Appeal Med Spa?
We carry several types of fillers including Juvederm, Radiesse and Restlane. We use multiple types of Juvederm and Restylane fillers which can provide results lasting from 6 months to two years. Radiesse provides an immediate plumping affect while also helping to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production to provide long lasting results of a year or more. We also have Sculptra which is sometimes labeled a filler but is actually a “bio-stimulator.” It works like Radiesse in that it stimulates production of collagen. It is injected in 2-4 sessions and results can last up to 2 years.
We have chosen these options for our customers because they have provided us with the best, most consistent results. They have also made our customers very happy in the past.
