Microneedling

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT, has become one of the leading treatments for skin texture. It can be used to treat a number of dermal issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, acne, scarring, and more.

What is microneedling?

Its name sounds scary, but the procedure is much less intense than it suggests. Using a very tiny needle, your doctor will very lightly prick the skin using a pen-like tool. The rapid movement of the needle causes controlled, micro-injuries to the skin. This then stimulates the skin’s collagen production creating smoother, firmer skin. You will also notice a difference in pigmentation, lines, and more!

Does microneedling hurt?

You will not actually see the aftermath of the pricks, but you may experience a light pricking sensation on the skin during the procedure. We do use a topical anesthetic to ensure any pain is minimalized. It typically takes us about 30 minutes to complete the microneedling treatment. If you are on a tight schedule, plan for a couple of hours at the office for registration, prep, the procedure, and relaxation. In order to make sure we evenly treat the skin, we must take it slow and be steady. This will helps to ensure the results you are looking for.

This procedure is minimally invasive with no downtime. Some clients like to take the day off of work since the procedure can cause some redness, but it is not necessary. The benefits of microneedling include a more even skin tone, softened fine lines and wrinkles, and reduction of sun spots. It can also help to lighten the effects of scars caused by acne or other wounds.

Microneedling with PRP

To enhance the effects of the microneedling treatment, you may infuse Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). This helps the skin to heal and return smoother.

Is microneedling safe?

Microneedling is completely safe and a great option for those who haven’t seen their desired results from other procedures such as chemical peels. Microneedling is the next step for most patients with deep wrinkles or severe scarring. You may experience redness or slight irritation on the skin a few days after the procedure, but this will fade as your skin rejuvenates. This is why we typically recommend adding PRP to reduce the time with redness or swelling.

Microneedling Results

For the best microneedling results, you’ll want to schedule regular appointments. Talk to your doctor about how often these appointments should be for your needs. Many people do see immediate results from their treatment. However, the best results typically begin to show about four to six weeks after the initial procedure when skin has healed and rejuvenated. Microneedling results are not permanent. We recommend setting a schedule for treatments with your doctor to ensure we are always keeping your skin youthful!
